Migration and The Body:
Movement, Migration and Control

Human migration, in its most simple term is the movement of people from one place of residence to another. With humans in the 21st century we migrate for many reasons such as better opportunities for living, work commitments and family. Or political issues like war, lack of democracy, or environmental crisis.

Below in a selection of art-based, practical methodology and outcomes from this research project.

Migrating a Bluebell:

Research.

This paper draws together the physical and emotional states migration places on the body. Whilst binding creative writing, photography, sculpture and film into this portrayal of migration, movement and control, over the human form.

The walking feet is at the heart of this research into the migrating body; focusing on to move, to change, to start new. This topic is important in regards to culture and the history of our modern world. Especially, in western societies which have been shaped and supported my migration for 1000s of years - yet often fail to be thankful, respectful and supportive in return. It is important to recognise this and express these feelings through my work. I hope this work can promote the protection of the migrating body, physically and culturally.

Final Outcome:

The Feet sculptures are a suitable final outcomes of this paper as they reveal a ghost like representation of the person who was, is, or meant to be there... They share the fragility of the moving body and its place in society.
